Easy way to test your own lubricant
Grease care is an important part of equipment maintenance, equipment once the start of operation to produce friction, if there is no lubrication, the equipment will soon be damaged because of friction, burned out. Therefore, the quality of the grease is not qualified, poor grease will cause wear and tear, shorten the life of the equipment. So how do we test the quality of the grease is qualified?

    Appearance check:
Take a thin, dry, clean, transparent container (such as a clean oil sampling bottle) and pour in a certain amount of lubricant. If the oil is new, the oil should be transparent, shiny and free of impurities, if it appears opaque or even turbid, whitish, suspended or precipitated, the oil should be suspected of being contaminated or having quality problems, and should be further tested by the laboratory.

    Sediment detection:
If the visual inspection found that there are sediments in the oil, it should be taken seriously. Take some oil samples in clean, dry white containers, the material of the container can not use porous materials, you can use plastic bottles or porcelain, fill the oil and cover it up, let it stand for two days. After two days pour out the oil but leave the bottom few milliliters not to be poured out because if there are deposits, they will settle to the bottom. Observe the oil left at the bottom and if you find sediments, it means that there are already contaminants in the oil because impurities of 40 micron size can be seen with the naked eye. It is to attract these impurities with a magnet, if they can be attracted, it means that they are generally fine abrasive particles such as iron filings. If they are not attracted by the magnet, but have a grainy feel when twisted with a finger, they are likely to be sand. If it is found that there is stratification or even whitening of the oil after resting, it is likely to be water.3

    Smell odor:
Separately take a new oil and oil in use, smell the smell of lubricants, in the normal state of the oil in use, the smell should be the same as the new oil, if there is a burnt taste, sour smell, rotten smell or other pungent odor, indicating that the oil has been deteriorated. Odor check, should also be combined with visual inspection, normal lubricants not only smell normal, the appearance of transparency should also be normal.

    Moisture check:
If you suspect that there is a small amount of moisture in the oil, you can test by heating method, this method can be the most basic judgment. Use a piece of iron, heated to about 135 ° C on the fire, in the iron drop of lubricating oil, if there is moisture will be observed bubbles, as long as the bubbles appear, the water content in the oil is generally in the 0.05% or more, if the oil bubbles crackle, indicating that the moisture has been in the 0.1% or more. The larger and more numerous the bubbles, the more water content.
