Normally, some oil will be released from the grease during storage. This is because the components of the grease are soap base, base oil, and various additives. The soap base acts like a sponge, keeping the oil inside. When subjected to pressure, such as mechanical rolling, the oil is released to play a lubricating role. Therefore, the grease itself should have the ability to release the base oil.
Under normal circumstances, the oil separation is small, and the properties of the grease itself have not changed (uniform texture, no stratification, no lumps, normal color and smell). Excessive oil separation will affect the use of the grease. If the oil separated from the surface of the grease still contains water, or the grease has lumps, oil-soap separation occurs, acidic substances are generated, there is a sour smell, and corrosion is unqualified, these are all abnormal phenomena.
Certain situations will aggravate the oil separation of the grease, such as vibration, centrifugal force, pressure, high temperature, grease contact with other substances, etc. Grease will also deteriorate if stored for a long time, especially when the temperature is high, so it should be sealed, kept clean, stored in a cool and dry place, and used up as soon as possible.
