As hydraulic system technology continues to evolve, so do the demands and challenges placed on the hydraulic fluids used in them. In this article, we will share with you a new hydraulic fluid specification that fully meets the challenges of today's hydraulic fluids - the Bosch specification, which is also the most stringent hydraulic fluid specification.
In today's society, people always want to do more things in the shortest possible time, such as more and more massive projects, or shorter journeys, and these need to rely on a variety of equipment to achieve. In order to realize our pursuit of faster and better development requirements, these devices, including hydraulic equipment, have to be under higher pressure, more severe environment, to ensure that the operation of durable and reliable; at the same time, the volume of these devices themselves but in the reduction; all of the above factors will inevitably lead to a higher technical requirements for the hydraulic fluid.

Previously, hydraulic fluid bench test conditions, such as hydraulic pump pressure and pump speed, were not dramatic. Bosch's fluid specifications, in response to the huge increase in power density of today's hydraulic systems, have been increased to 4,000 rpm and 450 bar for the new bench test; these figures show a marked improvement in fluid performance and a significant increase in the rigors of fluid testing.
So what do we mean by improved hydraulic fluid performance? Because systems operate at higher temperatures, pressures and speeds, it is clear that for hydraulic fluids we need to improve thermal stability, anti-wear protection, rust protection, material compatibility, oil oxidation resistance and hydrolysis stabilization. Ultimately, deficiencies in these properties can lead to hydraulic component failures and potentially catastrophic breakdowns and consequent costly repairs.
The new Bosch specifications are challenging to test, and many in-use oils are largely unable to meet them. Lubrizol has been deeply involved with hydraulic pump manufacturers to develop additives that meet their specifications.
