How the color of grease affects its performance
The color of a grease is usually not a critical factor in directly determining its performance, but it may provide some indirect information and hints to a certain extent.
A lighter-colored grease, such as pale yellow or nearly colorless, may indicate that its base oil is more refined and has relatively fewer impurities. This often means that it may perform better in terms of high temperature stability, oxidation stability and rust prevention properties.
However, dark-colored grease, such as dark brown or black, does not necessarily mean poor performance. Sometimes this may be due to the addition of more functional additives to enhance certain properties, such as wear resistance, extreme pressure performance, etc. But an excessively dark color may also indicate excessive oxidation or deterioration of the grease during production or storage.
For example, some greases with special additives to provide extreme pressure protection may appear darker in color, but their lubrication performance under heavy loads and extreme operating conditions will be significantly improved.
In general, the performance of grease cannot be judged simply based on its color, but its composition, applicable working conditions, technical specifications provided by the manufacturer, and actual use effects should be comprehensively considered.
