How to judge whether the engine oil is good or bad?

The most reliable way to judge the quality of engine oil is of course to conduct oil testing. If the conditions are limited, OLM recommends several simple methods:
1. Use the naked eye to distinguish: Pour the engine oil into a transparent cup and watch it. If the oil is transparent, clear and shiny, without suspended matter, precipitation, and impurities, it is qualified oil.
2. Smell the oil: Qualified engine oil should have no special smell. Any engine oil that is irritating to the sense of smell and has a strange smell or fuel smell is a deteriorated or inferior product. Most of them are recycled oil made from waste oil and must not be used.
3. Look at the quality grade marking of the oil. According to the API standard, the later the English letters in the quality grade mark, the better the performance (for example, SL grade is better than SG grade, and CF-4 grade is better than CD grade).
4. Look at the viscosity grade marking of the oil. Under the same quality grade, the greater the difference between the numbers before and after W in the viscosity grade marking, the wider the applicable temperature range, and the higher performance engine oil.
Motor oil is the blood of the engine and you must not be careless. If you are particularly suspicious about the quality of the oil, you can take it to an oil laboratory for more accurate testing. As for the most convenient and reliable method, it is still the old saying, which is to go to a reputable store and buy products from reliable brands.
