Engine lubricating oil has cooling, lubrication, cleaning, sealing 4 major functions, which plays a vital role in ensuring the normal work of the engine. With the increase of engine working time, engine oil due to high temperature oxidation, mechanical parts of the wear parts, fuel vapor corrosion and other factors and pollution. In addition, engine oil has to have a certain amount of consumption in normal use.
So we have to regularly check the level of engine oil and its degree of contamination, which is also the reason why we have to change the engine oil regularly.
If the oil falls below the specified value and affects the working of the engine, then it will cause fatal damage to the engine. Below we discuss specifically the causes of oil depletion and how to avoid its dire consequences. Under normal circumstances oil is consumed and in a fundamental sense there is no such thing as an engine that consumes absolutely no oil. The reasons for this are as follows:
1, the oil is used to lubricate the piston, piston ring and cylinder, when the piston downward movement, will leave a layer of oil film on the cylinder wall. Vehicle deceleration, the resulting high negative pressure will be some of this oil sucked into the combustion chamber, this oil and part of the oil film left on the cylinder wall, as in the combustion process by the high temperature combustion gases.
2, oil is also used to lubricate the intake valve stem, is drawn into the combustion chamber. The hot exhaust gases also burn the oil used to lubricate the exhaust valves.
The following factors affect oil consumption:
1, the viscosity of the oil: the lower the viscosity of the oil, the worse its sealing effect, the more it is sucked into the combustion chamber.
2, the vehicle's driving conditions: high-speed driving and frequent acceleration and deceleration will increase oil consumption.
3、Diluted components will evaporate during high speed driving, so excessive oil consumption will be noticed after high speed driving.
4. Since the new engine has not been broken in, more oil will be consumed. The maximum consumption of oil during break-in period given by Toyota is 1.0L/1000km maximum.
Finally I would suggest you to check the oil level every 1000km at the longest, and if conditions allow it is best to do it every time you refuel.
