How to properly choose the lubricating oil for your equipment?
I. According to the type of equipment
1. Internal combustion engine
- Gasoline engine: Choose lubricants suitable for gasoline engines, which usually require good clean dispersibility, anti-oxidation and anti-wear properties. You can choose oils of different viscosity grades according to the technical requirements of the engine and the use environment, such as 5W-30, 10W-40, etc.
- Diesel engine: The working conditions of diesel engines are relatively harsh, and lubricants with higher anti-wear, cleanliness and high temperature stability need to be selected. For example, heavy-duty diesel engines may require CI-4 or CJ-4 grade oils.
2. Industrial equipment
- Gearbox: Choose suitable industrial gear oil according to the gear type (such as spur gears, helical gears, worm gears, etc.), load, speed and operating temperature. For example, heavy-loaded, low-speed gearboxes may require high-viscosity, extreme-pressure gear oils.
- Hydraulic system: When choosing hydraulic oil, consider the system's working pressure, temperature range and environmental requirements. For example, a high-pressure system requires a hydraulic oil with good wear resistance, while a high-temperature environment requires a high-temperature resistant hydraulic oil.
II. Consider working conditions
1. Temperature
- High-temperature environment: Select a lubricant with good high-temperature performance that can maintain stable viscosity and lubrication performance at high temperatures. For example, synthetic lubricants usually have better high-temperature performance.
- Low-temperature environment: At low temperatures, the viscosity of the lubricant will increase and the fluidity will deteriorate. Therefore, it is necessary to select a lubricant with good low-temperature fluidity to ensure that it can quickly reach the lubrication part when starting at low temperatures. For example, multi-grade viscosity engine oil (such as 5W-30) has good fluidity at low temperatures.
2. Load
- Light load: For light-load equipment, a lubricant with lower viscosity can be selected to reduce friction resistance and energy consumption.
- Heavy load: Heavy-load equipment requires a lubricant with high viscosity and good wear resistance to withstand greater pressure and friction.
3. Speed
- High speed: High-speed equipment requires the lubricant to have good shear resistance and fluidity to reduce friction and heat generation. Usually a lubricant with lower viscosity is selected.
- Low speed: Low speed equipment can use lubricants with higher viscosity to ensure good lubrication effect when running at low speed.
