The Replacement Time of Grease
1. Operating conditions
Load size: Under high load conditions, grease tends to age and wear faster. If the equipment is under heavy load operation, it may be necessary to check and replace the grease more frequently.
Temperature conditions: High temperature environment will accelerate the oxidation and deterioration of grease. If the operating temperature is high, the replacement interval is usually shortened. For example, in the high-temperature metallurgical industry, grease may need to be replaced every few months; while in a general industrial environment with relatively low temperature, the replacement time may be as long as a year or more.
Humidity and pollution conditions: If the humidity of the environment where the equipment is located is high or there are a lot of dust, impurities and other pollutants, it will affect the performance of the grease and shorten its service life. In harsh environments, it may be necessary to replace the grease more frequently to ensure the normal operation of the equipment.
2. Grease type
Grease composed of different base oils and thickeners has different performance and life. For example, synthetic greases generally have better high temperature resistance and oxidation resistance than mineral oil greases, and the replacement interval may be longer.
The replacement time of some special-purpose greases, such as food-grade greases and high-speed bearing greases, will also vary depending on specific performance requirements.
3. Equipment requirements
Different equipment has different requirements for greases, and equipment manufacturers usually give recommended grease replacement times in the instruction manual. For example, the spindle bearings of precision machine tools have high lubrication requirements and may need to be replaced regularly (such as every six months) to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Some key equipment or high-speed equipment may need to replace grease more strictly according to the prescribed time to ensure its stable operation.
