Age hardening: The phenomenon that the consistency of grease increases with storage time.
Appearance: The characteristics of grease seen by visual inspection only, usually including overall appearance, texture, color and gloss, etc.
Overall appearance: smooth, rough, granular, oil-separated, etc.
Texture: creamy, elastic, brushed.
Color: red, blue, yellow, white, etc., and restrictive adjectives such as "light", "medium", "dark", etc. can also be added.
Gloss: shiny, matte, etc.
Consistency: Consistency refers to the degree to which a plastic material resists deformation under external forces.
Cone penetration: Cone penetration is a measure of grease consistency. The greater the cone penetration, the softer the grease.
Consistency grade: NLGI (National Lubricating Grease Institute) is divided into nine grades, from 000 to 6.
Mechanical stability: the ability of grease to resist changes in viscosity when subjected to mechanical shear. The smaller the viscosity change value, the better the mechanical stability.
Thixotropy: the property that when grease is sheared, the viscosity decreases, and when the shear stops, the viscosity increases again.
Water resistance: the ability of grease to resist being washed away from the bearing, the ability to resist the structural destruction of grease due to absorption of water, and the ability to prevent corrosion of metal surfaces in the presence of water.
Colloid stability: the ability of grease to resist oil separation.
Similar viscosity: usually the viscosity of grease decreases with the increase of shear rate, so the grease viscosity is called similar viscosity or apparent viscosity.
