During the production process of the rolling mill, the rolling mill bearings may burn or the bearing frame may smoke, which affects the production and also brings certain economic and cost losses to the enterprise. Therefore, improving the stability of the rolling mill, improving the quality of the rolling mill products, and ensuring the smooth progress of production have put forward a research topic for the rolling mill assembly personnel.
The causes of rolling mill bearing failure can be roughly divided into two aspects:
1. Internal reasons, such as bearing quality.
2. External reasons, such as installation, maintenance, and maintenance. In order to find out the reasons and take better targeted measures, it is very important to analyze the causes of burning.

Analysis of the causes of burning
Because the manufacturing precision of the rolling mill is not very high, when the service life is long, the various accessories of the rolling mill will be deformed to varying degrees, and the bearing seat will have a large coaxiality difference, which makes the bearings at both ends of the rolling mill unevenly stressed. When the lubrication is insufficient, it is easy to generate high friction heat, which will cause local pitting or locking of the bearing.
Combined with the actual situation of the rolling mill, use a cleaning agent before installation to clean the bearing, blow it dry with compressed air, and then check the rollers, cages, and raceways. Use tools to rotate the cylindrical roller bearings. The bearings can continue to be used only when they can rotate smoothly and linearly. If there are dents, pitting, etc. on the rollers and raceways, replace them.
Insufficient lubrication
Rolling bearings have both flow friction and sliding friction during movement. Cylindrical rollers are very hard rotating bodies. When working, they rotate and slide on the inner and outer rings of the bearings.
In terms of oil volume, it is required that the inner rings of the bearings must be coated with grease at the same time during assembly to ensure that the bearings have sufficient lubrication conditions. For rolling mills that have been used for a long time, the lubrication performance gradually decreases during use, and the wear gradually increases. Regular refueling should be adopted, and forced refueling should be used with a refueling gun of a pressure oil pump to ensure normal lubrication conditions.
Foreign matter influence
Foreign matter is the so-called foreign impurities, which mainly include the following aspects:
1. Other impurities brought by grease;
2. Foreign matter enters the bearing during disassembly and assembly;
3. Local damage caused by the collision of accessories during assembly;
4. Water and dust during work. The most common ones are the entry of foreign matter brought by grease and the entry of foreign matter during disassembly and assembly.

Overload damage
Under overload conditions, rolling bearings generally produce abnormal wear and fatigue damage. Combined with actual production, there are many reasons for bearing damage caused by cyclic load overload.
Influence of external temperature
The rolling mill bearings are sensitive to external factors in the long-term high temperature, high speed and frequent impact. When the rollers are working, due to various reasons, the cooling water cannot play a good cooling role, so the temperature of the rollers themselves is too high and will be transmitted to the inside of the bearings. Once the temperature is ≥300 degrees, the grease will slowly become liquid.
The lubricating oil will leak out of the bearing in large quantities, the lubrication conditions will drop sharply, causing the bearing temperature to rise step by step, and eventually the bearing will burn. Therefore, in work, the management of cooling water for rolling mill is also an indispensable link to reduce bearing burning.
