Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil exporter, cut its crude prices to Asian buyers to the lowest level in nearly four years on Wednesday, in what the market sees as an attempt to regain market share.
Saudi Arabia has pushed OPEC+ to raise its production targets ahead of schedule this year. OPEC+ cited healthy demand and low inventories as the basis for the increase.
Normally, strong demand and low inventories would prompt producers to raise prices.
Saudi Aramco, the Saudi state oil company, set the official selling price (OSP) for its flagship Arab Light crude oil sold to Asia in July at a premium of $1.20 per barrel over the Oman/Dubai average. The OSP premium was $1.40 per barrel in June and $1.20 per barrel in May.
