China purchases no U.S. crude oil for two consecutive months

18 million barrels of crude oil were shut out
Data shows that as of the end of April, the United States' crude oil exports to China hit the lowest record since the 2020 epidemic blockade, and shipments in the entire Asian market also dropped sharply.
It is reported that the gap in these two months is as high as 18 million barrels. According to the current international crude oil price, it has caused more than 10 billion US dollars in direct economic losses to US shale oil producers. In the past few years, China has been the second largest buyer of US crude oil, second only to Canada.
In the same period last year, China imported nearly 300,000 barrels of US crude oil per day, and the year before last it reached three times that value, close to 900,000 barrels. The adjustment of China's energy strategy has had a huge impact on US shale oil production. Because these manufacturers have long relied on China's shale oil import trade to maintain daily production.
Trump: I hope China will buy US crude oil

US President Trump posted on "Real Social" on the 24th that China can continue to buy Iranian oil after the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Bloomberg said that this statement surprised oil traders and US government officials.
The White House later clarified that this does not mean that the United States will relax sanctions on Iran.
"China can now continue to buy oil from Iran, and hopefully they will also buy a lot from the United States. I am honored to make this happen!" Trump said in the post. According to Bloomberg, the statement was published a few hours after Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire.
Bloomberg said that this post showed that Trump suddenly changed his position on China's purchase of Iranian oil, which caught the U.S. Treasury and State Department officials responsible for sanctions on Iranian oil exports off guard, "uncertain how to interpret the statement immediately."
Trump once imposed secondary sanctions on China

Since taking office in January this year, Trump has increased pressure on Iran to force Iran to abandon its nuclear program. In February, U.S. Treasury Secretary Benson said that the United States intends to reduce Iran's oil exports to less than 10% of the current level, resuming Trump's "maximum pressure" policy during his first term.
Bloomberg said that as part of this effort, the United States has imposed sanctions on hundreds of tankers involved in transporting Iranian oil. In addition, the White House has also targeted Chinese entities that purchase Iranian oil.
Just last month, Trump also warned that all purchases of oil or petrochemical products from Iran "must be stopped immediately", otherwise the countries and individuals involved will be immediately subject to secondary sanctions and prohibited from doing any business with the United States.
    Foreign Ministry response

On June 25, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun hosted a regular press conference.
Reuters reporter asked, US President Trump said yesterday that China can continue to buy oil from Iran and hopes that China can buy more oil from the United States. What is China's comment on the change in the US position and the relaxation of sanctions on Iran? How much crude oil has China purchased from Iran now?
Guo Jiakun responded that China will take reasonable energy security measures based on its own national interests.
