Gear oil is a kind of lubricant added with extreme pressure anti-wear agent, which is used in various gear transmission devices to prevent tooth surface wear and improve transmission efficiency. Because it is important, it is very troublesome once an abnormal situation occurs. Today, let's talk about the common problems in the use of gear oil.
How to choose gear oil?
In most cases, buying the oil specified or recommended by the equipment can avoid the wrong choice. However, if the equipment is second-hand, it may be wrong after several changes of ownership. It is best to choose it yourself.
When buying, try to choose an industrial oil manufacturer with quality assurance. Don't buy three-no products for cheapness, and don't directly choose the best sales for the sake of saving trouble. Choose the most suitable one according to the processing environment and equipment conditions of your factory.
What is the reason for the high temperature of gear oil during use?
1. The oil level of the gear oil is not enough, resulting in insufficient circulation, unable to completely infiltrate or spray lubricate the gear, increase friction, increase the temperature of the tooth surface, and thus increase the oil temperature.
2. The oil level of the gear oil is too high or the viscosity is too large, which increases the stirring heat, affects the heat dissipation, and the oil temperature and the tooth surface temperature rise synchronously.
3. The gears are not well run-in, and wear occurs, causing the tooth surface temperature and oil temperature to rise.
4. The load is too large, the viscosity of the oil is not enough or it is non-extreme pressure gear oil, which causes the oil film on the gear surface to rupture and the tooth surface temperature to rise.
How often should industrial gear oil be changed?
The oil change cycle is not just following the instructions. Generally, gearboxes with less oil consumption can change oil according to practical experience. Under normal circumstances, they are usually changed every 6 months; the centralized lubrication system of gear devices with high oil consumption and large consumption will be regularly replenished with oil. The oil quality can be judged according to the corrosion of the gears, the degree of sludge, the viscosity and other aspects to decide whether new oil needs to be replaced.
Why does gear oil turn white?
During the use of the oil, water will continue to enter the oil. If the oil has poor ability to separate water, emulsification will occur, which is manifested in the whitening of the oil.
The lubricity of the emulsified gear oil is reduced, the fluidity is deteriorated, and the anti-wear and anti-rust properties are also weakened. The gear oil will deteriorate faster and fail.
How to prevent pitting on the tooth surface?
Pitting, also known as pitting, is a form of corrosion that is very small in diameter on the metal surface but penetrates deep into the metal.
In addition to choosing the right gear, try to use gear oil with a higher viscosity within a reasonable range.
What should be paid attention to when using gear oil?
1. Before using the oil for the first time, thoroughly clean the pipeline and mailbox to avoid impurities from contaminating the oil.
2. Keep the working environment clean to avoid moisture, dust, etc. in the air from contaminating the gear oil.
3. Strengthen the monitoring of oil products in use, take samples regularly for inspection, and replace inferior oil products in time.
4. Check the inventory oil regularly to keep the storage environment hygienic and clean.
What are the signs of gear oil deterioration?
The oxidation reaction of the gear oil itself and the intrusion and contamination of external impurities will cause the oil to deteriorate, which is manifested in the following points:
1. Appearance changes The color of the oil becomes darker and turbid, emulsification occurs, and there are obvious particulate impurities.
2. Viscosity change
The viscosity of the oil decreases due to mechanical shearing, the oil becomes thinner, or the viscosity increases due to oxidation reaction.
3. Acid value change
Some oils contain high acid value additives. In the early stage of use, the acid value decreases because the additives are consumed. As the use time increases, the acid value will gradually increase. This is because the oxidation reaction of the oil produces acidic substances.
4. Increased water content
After a period of use, the water content of the oil increases, the anti-emulsification performance deteriorates, affecting the lubrication performance, and even pitting or bonding of the tooth surface may occur.
